Happy New Year!

It's 2011! We are back and ready to get back into learning! I hope you all enjoyed your vacation, and got to spend some time with family and friends. I am excited to be back and know that there is so much to do! Here is an outline of the next few things we will be studying and some helpful links and vocabualry to help kids at home. Feel free to email or call me if you have questions or concerns.

Jan 10-Jan 20 State testing Jan 11 (1:45-2:30) is our class time. We will be working on Reading, then Math.

Jan 4-10 Finishing up ecosystems and adaptations

Jan 10-14 Review of states in the US, the NW region and a final test on the states.

Jan 16-19 Beginning unit on Body Systems ( digestive, circulatory, muscular, skeletal) also tied in will be nutrition and health.

Currently we are studying the genres of fiction and will continue through next week.

In writing we are wrapping up our fictional narrative and will be publishing a picture book soon.

Math: 3D geometry with shapes. Learning vocabualry (faces, edges, vertices) Then we will work on volume of 3D shapes.

Continue to work on basic facts, multiplication and long division.

Conference week: November 22-23

Hope you are all having a great Thanksgiving Break! I am having a great time getting to know your parents and talking about all of the great things you are doing!

Tuesday October 12

It's already October! We have finished our lessons on continents and oceans and have moved on to regions of the United States. We are also working on state projects which will be due on Oct. 22nd. We started spelling and are continuing on with practice on long division.
Here are this weeks spelling words:

Group 1:

spoke, drive, wrote, mole, stone, file, smile, stove, ride, globe, vote, spice, crime, froze, wise, knife, throne, joke

Group 2:

ASSIGNMENT for spelling:

1. Sort words

2. divide into syllables

3. Find 5 words that fit your pattern

4. Practice test

These assignments are due on Friday October 15.

Welcome Back! It's been a really busy 2 weeks with so much learning going on already. We've been learning about the continents and oceans, genres of fiction and writing a personal narrative. I have enjoyed getting to know the personalities of each of the students. I look forward to meeting with all of the parents as well. I'm always open for questions, concerns or anything else that may come up. Please don't hesitate to call or send a note.

Here is a basic outline of what we will be covering for the next few weeks.

Math: Reviewing of factors, multiples, 2x2 digit multiplication and division.
Reading: Genres of fiction. Realistic Fiction
Writing: Personal narratives
Social Studies: World geography, states and major landforms of the United States. Using latitude and longitude.
Science: Ecosystems (to start in October)
Spelling: More to come. We are just finishing up assessments.
