State Project—US Geography
This year we will be studying the states of the US and their features. You may choose to do any of the following projects for your homework. All projects will be due on October 22nd Each project will require a poster and an oral presentation. Be creative, and if you have an idea that is not on this page, let me know and we can work it out. You will have at least 30 minutes a day to work on this project in class, but most of it will need to be done at home. You will only have reading during this time. Have fun.
1. Choose a state to research. Create each of the following things about your state.
a. map-showing capital, major rivers and lakes and 5 cities
b. state flag
c. bird
d. 5 interesting facts
2. Choose a region of the United States. Find 5 interesting places you would like to visit. Make sure they are in different states. You can think of places like national parks, tourist attractions, or even museums. Create a poster to show the 5 places you would like to go, a little information about the place and why you would like to go there.
3. A-Z of America. Create an A-Z board of interesting things about the United States. Each thing in the box should start with that letter. For example Grand Canyon could go in the G box.
4. Imagine you are going on a cross country trip. Create 5 postcards from 5 places you visited. Include your travel route on a US map with the sites highlighted. Make sure to write information on your postcard that tells about the place you visited.
5. Travel Brochure. Create a travel brochure for a state that you love. Make sure it is neat, colorful and interesting to the reader. Include important facts about your state that will attract visitors.
6. Choose the most interesting place in the United States and learn about that place. Your poster will give us all the information about that place. You could choose places like The White House, Everglades and the animals there, The Grand Canyon. Include a map of the state your place is located that includes the capital and 5 other cities.
7. Make a slideshow or powerpoint to share with the class about one of the above topics.
8. Create a play, skit or chant for one of the above ideas. Make sure you have a completed poster that will support your project.
9. Any other ideas, see me!
